This class teaches fundamental roller dance moves pioneered by Black skate culture including rhythm and jam skating. Rollerskating has a rich history within Black communities spanning as far back as the 1940s. Roller rinks embedded with Black skate culture played a huge role in the development of dance music culture such as R&B, soul, funk, disco and hip-hop. Over the decades, rollerskating has served as a source of liberation and healing for many communities.
